One of my mother’s favorite sayings was “you made your bed now lay in it.” That may sound rather archaic and rightfully so, if my mother was alive, she would have been 107 years old last month.

We now have millions of people in this country who choose to ignore the logic of the old sayings like “you made your bed . . .” because to not ignore them would put them face to face with reality, a face-off most people will avoid at all costs.

Yes, reality is very harsh an very unforgiving; the reality of what happens to you when you choose to ignore  a law is a great and current example. We have millions (no one seems to know how many millions) of people in this country who entered here knowing they were breaking our immigration laws and understanding that if they were caught they would get sent back to  where they came from. They took a chance!

Some of them were lucky and managed to stay here, hiding from our immigration enforcement agents for many years, some are still hiding, others managed to get permanent residency or even full citizenship.

Some of them were caught and deported, some were detained and then either allowed to stay because of some special program or finally deported.

Some, as we see in the headlines today, were thoughtless or irresponsible enough to bring their minor children with them.

All of them and all of us have at some point proven my mother’s generation right by being forced to “lay in the bed” they carelessly made.

All of these illegal immigrants in America however, in spite of cries off anguish and charges of inhumane treatment, can consider themselves fortunate. In may countries they would have been thrown in jail, tortured and even executed for ignoring the sovereignty of a country’s borders. Not in America!

Sovereignty — “a country’s independent authority and right of self-control.” Now there is a concept that many of the far Left and many in the media would love to ignore and/or redefine.

 

Trump’s Poorly-Thought-Out Muslim Proposal

Let’s just imagine that America’s immigration policy is changed to temporarily prevent Muslims from entering the country; just temporarily, until our government can figure out how to tell the radicalized Muslims from the peaceful ones.

That doesn’t seem like a bad idea when you consider the death and destruction that is almost routinely, caused by radicalized Muslims.

You’d never know it from listening to the broadcast or cable news, or even by listening to Trump himself, but that is exactly what Donald Trump is suggesting. Now Trump, being Trump, doesn’t make proposals that sound reasonable – when he talks, he is talking to the people who are just totally pissed-off about the way our government does things so he uses harsh words and makes wild faces that will energize his followers.

Donald Trump, politically speaking, is not a very smart man! He talks off the top of his head and I seriously doubt that he listens to any rational advice he is given by his political advisors — either that or he has hired a bunch of “yes men” as advisors who do nothing but stroke his very large ego.

There is no doubt in my mind that what Trump is suggesting:

“A total and complete shutdown of Muslims entering the United States until our country’s representatives can figure out what is going on.”

is the germ of a good idea, but I get the impression that Trump believes, like he believed about his ‘deport every Illegal Alien’ proposal, that it is something that could actually happen. Even if  Trump were to become the next president, it is unlikely that he could shut down Muslim immigration completely — there is just too much opposition to that idea in both the Republican and Democratic parties as well as in the Supreme Court and in the general public.

In a perfectly rational world, Trump’s proposal would be hailed as a ‘great idea’ but here in America, we are far from being in a perfectly rational world. Americans long ago lost their spirit and their ability to think clearly! What we have now is a “go along to get along” mentality that shrivels at the thought of being thought of as anything other than ‘generous, accepting and forgiving’. We have an entire generation of  liberal “Stepford Wives” controlling the country’s direction.

No, I don’t believe we need (or will ever get) Trump in the White House, who we need is someone who is on the same “wavelength” as Trump but will apply common sense and logic to his propositions. Someone who understands what is doable and what will never get done. Someone who understands the damage that Liberal politicians and a dysfunctional Supreme Court are doing in the United States

Guess what! We have that very person running for the presidential nomination in 2016. He’s as rebellious as Trump and shares many of the same BASIC positions as Trump, but he is not as impractical, as infuriating or as ego driven:

Ted Cruz has been openly, vocally opposed to the kind of destructive legislation and proposals that have been coming out of the White House since Obama was first elected. A Ted Cruz presidency would bring the United States back, in a sensible manner, to a strong, prosperous, safe place in the world where our enemies fear us and our allies would be willing to work with us and would benefit by being our partners in this dangerous world.

A President in Denial

As of this Monday morning, the governors of four states: Alabama, Arkansas, Michigan and Texas stated that they refused to accept Syrian refugees into their states because of the very real dangers of hidden terrorists in their ranks. They are putting the safety of their citizens above all else. By evening that count of rebellious governors had risen from 4 to 25. Clearly, it’s a Constitutional question, whether the states can opt out of a federal immigration mandate, but the power of the majority of the states may not, in the end,  win out over an extreme Leftist administration.

President Obama, in remarks following the G20 Summit in Turkey made it clear that he also understands the possible dangers from an influx of Moslem/Syrian refugees:

“. . . one of the challenges we have in this situation is that if you have a handful of people who don’t mind dying, they can kill a lot of people, that’s one of the challenges of terrorism. It’s not their sophistication or the particular weaponry that they possess, but it is the ideology they carry with them and their willingness to die.”

That understanding, however, is apparently not a sufficient reason for him to change his mind about accepting thousands of Syrian refugees in the United States.

He said the United States would continue to accept more refugees from Syria and elsewhere, though “only after subjecting them to rigorous screening and security checks.” Our compassionate president did not, however, acknowledge the fact that we can only screen and check out these people using current databases developed by our security professionals and those of our allies; and he certainly doesn’t want to admit to the American citizens he was sworn to protect that we will know nothing about the vast majority of the refugees he intends to accept.

Those databases that we must use to “subject refugees to rigorous screening and security checks.” will not, and Obama must also know this, will not uncover those terrorists who are in “sleeper cells,” just waiting to be activated . . . exactly the ones that will be seeking entry to the United States to wreak the havoc that ISIL, ISIS, Muslum mullahs and Iatolahs and, in fact, the Quran itself promises to inflict on “infidels.”

National Defense; protecting America and its citizens “from enemies both foreign and domestic” is the president’s most important job — but to avoid doing that job Obama is using the excuse: “That’s not American (to turn away refugees). That’s not who we are.” He then mentions this great compassion America has for the rest of the world’s citizens.

My admittedly jaundiced view of this and many past actions of Barak Obama is that he is intentionally tearing down and corrupting American values, culture, security, national defense capabilities and our countries very soverignty. I repeat, intentionally!

It has been apparent since he first started seeking the presidency in 2001 that Obama has a deep seated contempt for our country and its constitution. Specifically, he made it clear back then that he wanted a road to redistribution of wealth; he stated that the Constitution did not go far enough. His thirst for wealth redistribution clearly marked him as a Socialist, an enemy of our Democratic process. A majority of American’s foolishly elected him anyway.

Knowing what you now know about Barak Obama, listen to this 2001 radio interview on Chicago Public Radio and make up your own mind about his intentions at the time, should he win the presidency.

Yes the United States is normally a compassionate country and will do whatever is needed to help people who are genuinely seeking refuge from dictatorial/inhumane regimes around the world, but this Syrian refugee situation presents a new dimension to the situation, a dimension that forces thoughtful people to seriously consider the possibly dire consequences of compassionate behavior.

Immigration, Inequity Is Thy Name

Following is a quote from Eric Hoffer: the “longshoreman philosopher” (1902 – 1983):

“The Jews are a peculiar people: Things permitted to other nations are forbidden to the Jews.

Other nations drive out thousands, even millions of people, and there is no refugee problem. Russia did it. Poland and Czechoslovakia did it. Turkey threw out a million Greeks and Algeria a million Frenchmen. Indonesia threw out heaven knows how many Chinese–and no one says a word about refugees.

But in the case of Israel, the displaced Arabs have become eternal refugees. Everyone insists that Israel must take back every single Arab. Arnold Toynbee calls the displacement of the Arabs an atrocity greater than any committed by the Nazis. Other nations when victorious on the battlefield dictate peace terms. But when Israel is victorious it must sue for peace.”

Ironic? Yes! Tragic? Yes! Beside the point of this post? Yes, I must admit it is not a quote that enhances the point of the text where it has been placed. It does, however, make a greater point that needs to be emphasized; ‘life is, and always will be, full of inequities.’

The Israeli and American situations are similar — but different in that, in the case of Israel the world is the unreasonable accuser and in the case of America it is a particular political class of Americans who are saying “Shame! Shame on you!” when the deportation of people here illegally is proposed.

One might say that America’s immigration problem is America’s own fault.The American ego,because of the success of Capitalism, led us to become the most charitable nation on earth; a state of mind that can only exist for a finite period of time before the eternal realities of supply and demand must kick in. Now we are at the point where more and more rational people (most Conservative Republicans, some Independents, some Libertarians and a spare handful of Liberal Democrats) have concluded that if we keep it up (“it” being our excessive spending and our reckless compassion) our economy will fail. That failure has already begun.

I know the term I used “reckless compassion” may seem cold and even “un-American” but that is exactly what it is when a country, or even an individual, opens up the checkbook and the wallet to those who appear genuinely needy without regard for it’s/their own essential legal and financial obligations.

Sometimes in the life of every individual, organization and government entity, ‘feel-good’ charitable behavior must be curtailed to meet obligations. In some cases, charitable behavior may be nothing more than the enabling of irresponsible or thoughtless behaviors but, granted, in most cases it is probably a valuable help to the recipient. That aside, in every case, real spending beyond genuine hard limits is irresponsible.

This does not even take into account the fact that with virtually uncontrolled immigration, the United States is losing its very sovereignty.

Presidential candidates in the Republican Party are pretty much unanimous in their realization that we have to do “something” but, as with most issues, the “what” proposed by each candidate is quite different from all the others. The ultimate solution, as proposed by Donald Trump, is so bold that it not being seriously considered by many Americans or by the other candidates. Mr.Trump is proposing that all 11.5 million illegal immigrants (probably more like 13 or 14 million) either be deported or, having been denied access to the generosity of the government and the community, they will leave with no incentive to stay.

In my view, with a single-minded determination at work, the Trump ‘endgame’ is the only solution to the problem; how we get there is another matter. With the strict denial of government handouts and the illegal immigrant’s inability to find work, we may not even need a very large wall on the border.

 

The Folly of Birthright Citizenship for Illegal Immigrants

The Citizenship Clause is the first sentence of Section 1 in the Fourteenth Amendment to the United States Constitution, which states that:

“All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States and of the State wherein they reside.”

This Amendment was created for the sole purpose of insuring that the children of slaves would be considered citizens and given the rights and privileges due to all U.S. Citizens.

Jacob Merritt Howard (1805 – 1871) was a U.S. Representative and U.S. Senator from the state of Michigan during and after the American Civil War. Senator Howard was also the author of the 14th Amendment Citizenship Clause. In his writings, he was very clear about  who would fall within the “jurisdiction of the United States. Here is what he wrote:

“Every person born within the limits of the United States, and subject to their jurisdiction, is by virtue of natural law a citizen of the United States this will NOT, of course, include persons born in the United States who are foreigners, aliens, those who belong to the families of ambassadors or foreign ministers accredited to the government of the United States but will include every other class of persons. It settles the great question of citizenship and removes all doubt as to what persons are or are not citizens of the United States. This has long been a great issue in the legislation and jurisprudence of this country.”

This is from the guy who actually drafted the Citizenship clause of the 14th amendment. Is there any doubt about what the clause is saying? Only in the minds of those who refuse to acknowledge the history of the 14th Amendment and those who refuse to apply common sense to the reality of illegal immigration and birthright citizenship.

Birthright citizenship has been misapplied to hundreds of thousands of children who just happened to be in the United States when they were born, the children of illegal immigrants who heard there was an easy way to get into the United States without bothering with paperwork, learning anything about American history, American Law or all the other things that the people who do things the right way and who want to become Americans, not just foreign residents,  have to do.

Apply some common sense to the situation! How ludicrous is it that anyone really believes that coming to America and birthing a baby while here would actually/magically make that baby an American. It is ludicrous, but yet the majority of politicians, judges and immigrants believe it and they actually started practicing and legalizing this fictitious birthing ritual.

If you are pregnant, try it yourself. Wait until the date the baby is due and then go to a foreign country (if you’re on a budget just go North to Canada or South to Mexico) have your baby at an airport or bus terminal and try to claim that the baby is now a citizen of that country and you and the baby can stay in the country with no contest from the country’s legal system. You can be sure, if you don’t wind up in a prison cell, you will be on a bus, plane or train on your way back to the United States as soon as the country’s immigration officials can get you there.

Canada, in fact did, once upon a time, practice the same fictitious birthing ritual that the United States is now practicing. They allowed any baby born in country to become a citizen. Thousands of Orientals took advantage of their serendipitous interpretation of birthright citizenship until it got so bad the Canadian government had to finally end that practice. They were left with thousands of new oriental citizens but it ended right there. ‘Bout time we did the same.

Now if you think Donald Trump (who by the way is right about the “Anchor Baby” situation) is a bit too caustic most of the time, you’ll find that Mark Levin is even moreso. If that’s not enough for you, check out Michael Savage on Youtube (in bookstores, libraries and on the radio) he also has common sense and understands what a ridiculous lark it is to endow citizenship on the babys of Illegals.

Levin, Savage and Trump are all right on this issue and Trump is the ONLY presidential candidate with enough commonsense and guts to say it out loud.

Obama Gets Another Sycophant, Attorney General Designate Loretta Lynch

Our newly confirmed United States Attorney General, Loretta Lynch, is the nation’s top “Law Enforcement Officer,” but like her predecessor and like virtually every official in the Obama administration, when it comes to illegal immigration, she has no respect for the law or for the rights of the citizens of the United States,

Wednesday, during a Senate Judiciary Committee confirmation hearing, Sen. Jeff Sessions (R-AL) asked Lynch: “who has a greater right to work: Illegal aliens, or lawful immigrants and American citizens?. The question itself should cast doubt on Sen. Sessions ability to address the issue intelligently; it implies that Illegal aliens have a questionable right to work in the United States, when common sense and existing laws reject that possibility.

The Attorney General designate’s answer leaves no doubt that she is not qualified to hold the position she was just confirmed to  she stated: “I believe the right and the obligation to work is one that is shared by everyone in this country, regardless of how they came here.” She went on to expound on her personal philosophy, which she probably hoped obscured her answer. Bottom line: Lynch believes: ‘the law be damned, Obama is entitled to get what he wants.’

I have no doubt that our congress as a whole is so irresolute that Obama WILL, in the end, get his way on immigration just as the Judiciary Committee gave him his new sycophant.

In my View: The only right any illegal alien in the United States may have is the possible “right to remain silent” until they have legal counsel and even that is probably not an enforceable “legal right”.

“Immigration Reform” Obama Style!

By the end of the G.W.Bush Presidency, the lack of proper enforcement at our southern border was a major job killing, economy killing problem. During his first run for the presidency Barack Obama made a promise to “reform” the immigration system and that, among many other false promises, combined with an element of misplaced “white guilt,” bought Obama the presidency.

Unfortunately, Obama’s version of reforming the immigration system was to open the border even more, encourage illegal immigration by giving away benefits to illegals that were ONLY intended for citizens and by obscuring immigration issues with lies and more false promises.

Obama soon found out that he could not reform the immigration system because of several factors: 1) The majority of the American public does not agree with Obama’s convoluted definition of “fairness,” they want fair treatment of American citizens not fair treatment of people who have broken our laws and taken advantage of our generosity. 2) The Federal Court System is not trustworthy; we have judges on the federal bench who are incapable of separating their allegiances to their political parties and benefactors from their allegiance to the U. S. Constitution. 3) The Congress of the United States is broken in the same way the Federal Court System is broken. Their oath is to the U.S. Constitution and the people NOT to the RNC or the DNC or to anyone in the Executive Branch of government.or to any non-secular entity.

With the level of dysfunction in the greater Federal Government its a surprise that anything productive ever happens.

When President Obama discovered that he was impotent (unable to plant the seeds of change in the immigration system) he decided to ignore the Congress, ignore the Judiciary and ignore the American people and rule by Executive Order. In November of 2014 Obama proposed a program, using his executive authority, that would do away with the threat of deportation from some 4.7 million illegal immigrants.Note that, as House Speaker Boehner reminded us this week, President Obama has publicly stated 22 times that he does not have legal authority to do this, he did it anyway because it’s the one thing that might stop his 8 year presidency from being a complete failure in his own mind {it already is a complete failure in many other minds}.

Obviously, judging from President Obama’s own words and actions in the areas of immigration and foreign policy, the future of the United States take a distant second place to the legacy of Barack Obama.

On Monday  of this week, U.S. District Judge Andrew Hanen in Brownsville, Texas must have taken note of the fact that 26 states (just over 50%)  have requested an injunction to block the President’s immigration programs from going into force while the legal process played out. Judge Hanen granted the injunction.

The Federal System being what it is, it is likely that another Federal Judge will overturn Judge Hanen’s decision within a few days.

Obama’s Immigration Action: My View

I have to admit that I tend to oppose ANYTHING President Obama supports because Obama has been such a destructive force against a strong America, He has since coming into office reeked havoc on the American economy, on America’s military strength, on America’s security (which includes many aspects of immigration) and America’s position as a respected friend to our allies and a feared enemy of our country’s enemies. These past six years have created a new America, a weaker America, a more dangerous place to live. With a weak, anti-American values president in office we may just have to wait two more years to remedy that situation.

That said, I approached President Obama’s “executive action on “immigration reform” with a strong bias against whatever he might propose. I was surprised to find that, considering the immensity and complexity of the problem, his ideas made sense and did not foretell the “end of life as we know it” as I was told it would by the ultra-Conservative ‘talking heads.’ (Some day I’ll learn to ignore all opinions except my own.)

Setting aside the fact that, as a typical Liberal would, Obama stated twice that we are a nation of immigrants when the reality is we are rather a nation of LEGAL immigrants; that has been our tradition, it has worked well and made our country into the strongest, richest and most productive country on Earth. But right now we are faced with a huge problem, namely many millions of people who are here illegally. This did not all happen during the Obama administration; we have had many presidents in the past, Republican and Democrat, Conservative and Liberal icons who were aware of the problem illegal immigrants pose for our economy but either did nothing, were powerless to do anything or were too “soft” to halt or reverse the growing tide of these illegals.

If we are to take Obama at his word (first assuming [BIG assumption] his word is, at least this time, reliable) he says we will be selective about which illegals stay and which illegals get deported. Those who stay will not be the troublemakers and cheats, they will be the hard working illegals who are already rooted in our society (for over 5 years) and who share our values, and only after they come out of the shadows, register and agree to pay taxes. Under existing immigration laws he apparently DOES have the power to make decisions like that on a case-by-case basis.

The big question remains: can we believe this skilled trickster who happens to be our president?

The major problem of course is, in spite of Obama trying to “weasel word” it, we ARE rewarding people who broke our laws to get here. In an ideal situation, in an ideal world we would gather up all these law breakers and send them out of the country and then effectively seal up our borders so they can’t come back. This may be a great country but it is certainly not a perfect country so we have to deal with the mistakes and misjudgements of our elected leaders in the best way we can and, if this country is to work at all, we sometimes have to compromise our ideals so the least harm is done to the most people — that’s not only what life is all about, that’s what a democratic society is all about.

Obama’s plan may not be completely palatable to people like me but at least it’s a plan.

President Obama wants to spend 3.7 Billion taxpayer dollars in an effort that “he HOPES” will help resolve the mess he helped create at our southern border. He wants to handle illegal immigration on a case by case basis through a new and improved legal system (hmmm, something wrong with that — perhaps the name should be changed to the “Illegal System”) and build nicer detention centers to keep the illegals ‘comfy’ while they wait for the ‘wheels of justice to get up to speed. I would bet that the first deportation hearing will not begin for six months to a year while the Washington “genius'” are re-creating current immigration laws to make them kinder and gentler. (You know that’s going to happen don’t you?) All this time we are feeding and caring for them and you can bet that every judge that is appointed to hear these cases will be a push-over for “doe-eyed” children and adults with particularly poignant “sob stories”.

I say we should deport every illegal we can find! They are not here because we invited them, they are not here because they can contribute to the economy or welfare of the country! We have a U.S. Embassy in virtually every major city in the world! That’s why THEY are there; to handle applications for asylum in the U.S. as well as applications for legal entry into the United States. If our embassy’s are incapable of doing that, lets “beef THEM up” before more refugees and asylum seekers get to our borders.

The answer to the unasked question ‘why are deportation hearings necessary?’ eludes me. Only American Citizens or those holding valid visas should logically be granted any legal rights or be entitled to due process under our laws and under our Constitution. If you are not wanted in a person’s house, you have no legal rights to be there and the owner of the house has every legal right to eject you. Don’t you think that that principle of ‘private property’ should apply to our borders? If not then we are no longer a sovereign country.

But our president has vowed that if we don’t do it HIS way he will ‘do it himself.’ Now THAT I believe, or that he will at least try.

If there is any way to stop our government from going into a 2-month recess, now is the time to pull it out of a hat. While the cats are away, the rat will play. Leaving Obama alone, virtually in control of the government and in control of America’s future is like leaving your twin six-year olds alone in you home for a weekend. They will break everything.

Oh yes, the president says he wants to beef up our border security and he wants to speed deportations — but only a fool would believe that. He owns the Justice Department who are the people who will be controlling this grand scheme and if you look at the last 6 years of the Obama administration you will notice that he does not like the thought of a strong United States. He has continually tried to turn our once powerful, influential, militarily dominant United States into his fantasy version of a third-world country that is ripe for the picking of our enemies. He has continually tried to subvert our Constitution and now he is attempting to virtually eliminate our sovereignty.

In Defense of Children in Peril

An article in the National Journal (http://www.nationaljournal.com/domesticpolicy/why-90-000-children-flooding-our-border-is-not-an-immigration-story-20140616) titled “Why 90,000 Children (per year) Flooding Our Border Is Not an Immigration Story”, provides a detailed look at the facts and background of the story you see almost nightly on the news.

My very first reaction to this scenario where all of these thousands of refugees are being snagged and then bussed to Arizona was that we should have secured the borders long ago, when it was being called for and when we were starting to understand what illegal immigration was doing to our country. But after reading this National Journal article I realized (as the Journal article’s title implies) that this is not a matter of illegal immigration, this is more correctly looked at as a refugee problem with a twist. These refugees are not adults looking for work, these are children, UNACCOMPINED children who were in danger in their home coutries. I’m inagining the heartbreak of the mother or father who realized that to save the son’s or daughter’s life they would have to send them away, to a different country, and perhaps never see them again. Most of these parents may not live long enough to see their children again. That’s an act of desperation AND an act of love.

The reason that this is happening is well beyond our direct control. These are impoverished Central American countries where the criminals and drug lords have taken over. It may be a terrible imposition on the generous nature of Americans to have to feed and clothe and medicate all of these childrens but it is what it is.

Had these refugees been adults I would opt for sending them all back to where they came from and encouraging them to learn to fight to defend themselves their families and their neighbors. There are no doubt more of them than there are criminals and they should have no qualms about killing the criminals before the criminals kill them. Hopefully it will come to that in ElSalvador, Guateala and Honduras, hopefully the people will rise up and take back their lives and neighborhoods.

The children, however, are another story. Frankly I applaud the common sense and courage of the parents or relatives of these children for sending them out of harm’s way. This is America and we will find a way to do what we have to for these kids, keep them well and keep them safe and make them feel like someone cares about what happens to them.
