So much static! It’s hard to hear the Republican message.

“President Obama, bless his heart, has tried to substitute government for free people, and it has not worked, and it’ll never work.” Mitt Romney

That’s it! That’s the message that America-loving patriots have been trying to get you to hear since this election cycle began.

In war time when a plane had a “heat seeking” missile locked onto it’s exhaust, the most common countermeasure was to release a decoy (a pyrotechnic device) that created more heat than the plane’s exhaust and then quickly change course. This tactic would confuse the missile — the missile, designed to track the hottest thing in it’s path, would go after the decoy.

That last descriptive paragraph may seem rather obscure but think about it in relation to the current election season: the plane represents President Obama’s record as president; the missile represents the Republican message — the message President Obama is afraid to have the American public understand — the message that, once understood, will “shoot down” his presidency; the decoys are the Obama campaign’s attempts to deflect public awareness of the message.

The message, once again, is: “trying to substitute government for a free people has never worked and will never work.

Here come the decoys!

— Romney needs to release more and more tax returns!
— The Republican party is the enemy of all women!
— Congressman Todd Akin’s views are vile and subscribed to by the entire Republican party!
— The Romney/Ryan Medicare policies will make the Medicare System fail faster and harm current retirees!

Even though these Democratic decoys (and many others) are a combination of nonsense, exaggeration and outright lies they have served their purpose well by distracting the public’s attention — with the invaluable assistance of the main-stream, Obama-supporting media — away from Obama’s failures and away from the public’s awareness that Obama’s publicly stated mission is not to save and strengthen America, it is to “remake America.”

Remake America into what, you may ask? The answer is clear, President Obama wants us to become addicted to European-style Socialism; once we become “junkies”, addicted to government handouts, people will not rule the state, the people will feel (and be) dependent on the generosity of the state.

One caveat: Trying to substitute government for a free people has never worked and will never work, unless we allow it to happen.

Bloomberg: Obama Shifts From Medicare to Focus on Younger Voters

The Issue is “Choice” not Abortion

According to a CNN article this morning:

“A campaign flub by a Republican Senate candidate shifted the political focus Monday to abortion and women’s rights.”

The “flub” in question was a statement by Republican Congressman Todd Akin of Missouri who said in an interview that “legitimate rape” rarely resulted in pregnancy. Akin apparently does not believe in abortion, period, in any circumstance and was making a mindless argument to support his own personal opinion.

We obviously all have a right to our personal opinions but in Akin’s case, the case of an elected government official, he was obviously ignoring his oath to be a representative of all of the people in his district in Missouri. Akin was not speaking as a man who cares about his constituents or even one who is knowledgeable about human biology . . . no, for just that one moment his instincts as a Theocrat took over. In his mind, as in the minds of millions like him (unfortunately this includes the majority of Conservative Republicans), free will represents an impediment to a perfect world . . . a “perfect world” where the Christian Bible is the ONLY authority over mankind and those who do NOT believe in the inerrancy of that Bible must be forced by law to believe in it.

In general, people like Akin are not fit to serve in positions where they can influence laws; they are incapable of honoring their solemn oath of office which pledges them to “support and protect the Constitution”. To them, the Constitution is just another impediment to a complete Theocracy. There is, however, a “Bigger Picture” to consider.

In the landmark abortion case Roe v. Wade, the nine Justices of the Supreme Court using the 14th Amendment (the Due Process Clause) stated “a right to privacy ruled that all state and federal laws outlawing abortion were unconstitutional and therefore, since that time, because of this decision, abortion has been considered ‘the law of the land.'”

Constitutionally, abortion is not even a legitimate issue — it has been settled, it IS Constitutional and it IS the “law of the land.”

The sad fact is that abortion opponents are actually opposing a woman’s right to have complete autonomy over her own body. Right now a woman’s right to choose abortion is not in contention, except in the minds of people who feel that their personal religious position against abortion (and this IS strictly a religious issue) should stand against a woman’s personal rights as well as her Constitutional rights.

The Bigger Picture

Here I have made a case against abortion opponents serving in public office — it is, however, just an emotional argument — the legal argument is, at least for now, moot and untouchable by any candidate for public office. If, however, there is anyone out there who will allow his or her stance on abortion to sway his or her vote in November — forgive me for thinking you foolish!

In this upcoming November election there are far more important “fish to fry.”

There are the matters of our country’s: tattered economy; huge national debt; far too large unemployment rate; energy independence; our status as a Republic where the individual states are, in most matters, autonomous and, among many other issues; our standing in the world as a positive force against terrorists and other evils — which, as tasteless as it seems to many, is a central issue that effects our very survival as a nation.

Compared with these, an issue like abortion rights, an issue, I repeat, which has already been settled, is far too insignificant to effect an election for President of the United States.

In my mind at least, based on just the important issues, President Obama (who apparently supports a woman’s right to choose abortion) has already lost the November election.

When Words Lose Their Meanings

The Article “Arizona blasted for denying licenses to Deferred Action recipients” at “Fox News Latino” this morning set me off!

First of all, why is there a special Fox News for Latino News? Does the news at Fox News not apply to everyone? I understand there being special sections for Religious news or Political news, etc. but a special section for Latinos? Is there perhaps a special Fox News for Irish people or African Americans or Caucasians? (I’m immediately demanding a “Fox News Old White Guys” section!) Perhaps I’ve done something illegal by reading the “Latino News” at Fox News when I’m not a Latino?

But of course in the 21st Century I couldn’t have intentionally done anything illegal because the word “Illegal” no longer means what It did back when it was on my vocabulary list in Elementary School. Back then “illegal” meant anything that is against the law, I would have had to repeat 5th grade if I would have suggested to my English teacher that “the law” was just a phrase with no real meaning and “breaking the law” was a phrase that does not apply to some special groups of people — as it apparently does not today.

Illegal immigrants are no longer “illegal”, they are now either “undocumented” or, in the case of those who qualify under the terms of Obama’s latest ‘obamanation’ — his version of the “Dream Act” — they are not only undocumented they may be “deferred.” This latest special category of illegals was not, by the way, the result of a law being passed — it was the result of this extra-legal obamanation. REAL laws are passed by Congress and then signed into law by the President. Oh well! As Mel Brooks King Louis of France character exclaimed in “History of the World Part 1”, “it’s good to be the king!”

In the previously mentioned Fox News Latino article there was another new word introduced by Alessandra Soler, executive director of the American Civil Liberties Union of Arizona. When Arizona Governor Jan Brewer states the FACT that Arizona law requires that all applicants for a driver’s license ‘show proof of U.S. citizenship or legal status,’ Soler corrects her by saying “there is a difference between “legal status” and “legal presence.” Imagine that, the all powerful ACLU now has the power to reinterpret and reword a state’s law — that is something that not even the president is allowed to do — unless, of course, we’re talking about King Barack the First of the United States.

What to do? What to do?

My personal view is very unpopular but (to my mind) unquestionably correct. If a person enters the United States without the express LEGAL permission of the United States government they are here ILLEGALLY; as such they are NOT entitled to any licenses, any benefits, any jobs, any free health care, any food stamps or anything else. These things are reserved for American citizens or LEGAL immigrants. If an illegal immigrant ‘drops a baby’ here in the United States, both she and the baby are here illegally. There are thousands (or more likely millions) of people “waiting in lines” to gain access to the United States the right way. Why should we allow any law breakers to “cut into that line” ahead of them?

Other lost words: the United States government has also lost the meanings of the words: right, wrong and integrity.

Attack on the FRC

The fact that Tony Perkins organization, the Family Research Center (FRC), is (as the Southern Poverty Law Center states) clearly a ‘hate group,’ does not excuse the actions of 28 y/o Floyd Lee Corkins II.

When Corkins brought a gun into the offices of the Family Research Council in Washington, D.C., stating that he didn’t like their policies, then shooting the building manager in the arm, he was committing a terrorist act. Hopefully he, and other nuts like him, will be put away for many years and prevented from ever again legally owing a firearm.

Tony Perkins is spreading the blame for this act between the shooter and the Southern Poverty Law Center. Quoting Perkins:

“Let me be clear that Floyd Corkins was responsible for firing the shots yesterday that wounded one of our colleagues … but Corkins was given a license to shoot an unarmed man by organizations like the Southern Poverty Law Center that have been reckless in labeling organizations ‘hate groups’ because they disagree with them on public policy.”

Bloomberg today, as this Bloomberg article indicates, disagrees: “Unfortunately for Perkins, it’s pretty clear that a fair portion of FRC’s business is hate.”

What else would you call a group who has arbitrarily set itself up as the ‘moral compass’ for America and who regularly (and absurdly) accuses gays of being pedophiles:

“While activists like to claim that pedophilia is a completely distinct orientation from homosexuality, evidence shows a disproportionate overlap between the two. It is a homosexual problem.” (FRC President Tony Perkins, on the FRC website, 2010)

When you consider how reviled pedophiles are (as they should be), every gay person must certainly consider that to be incendiary hate speech?

The organization People for the American Way (motto: Speak out against intolerance — that’s the American way) has published a “Profile of the Family Research Council”. Here, from that profile, is a statement of the “FRC’s Principal Issues”:

“Since the early 1990’s, FRC has emerged as a leading conservative think-tank championing “traditional family values” by lobbying for state-sponsored prayer in public schools, private school “vouchers,” abstinence-only programs, filtering software on public library computers, the right to discriminate against gay men and lesbians.

“FRC’s objective is to establish a conservative Christian standard of morality in all of America’s domestic and foreign policy.

“FRC has dedicated itself to working against reproductive freedom, sex education, equal rights for gays and lesbians and their families, funding of the National Endowment for the Arts and the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. FRC supports a school prayer amendment and would like to ‘disestablish’ the Department of Education.”

This is a description of a group that is opposed to legally expressed individual freedom and that puts them in direct opposition to freedoms guaranteed in the Constitution of the United States.

Thanks to that same Constitution, however, the FRC is guaranteed the right to preach their anti-gay message (even if it consists of lies) and spread their anti-freedom (anti-American) message . . . but aren’t they being hypocritical when they complain about honest negative evaluations of their organization’s efforts?

The Paul Ryan/Ayn Rand Connection

The Washington Post’s “Wonkblog” contains an article titled What did Ayn Rand teach Paul Ryan about monetary policy?.

Paul Ryan proudly admits that, among other books, Ayn Rand’s novel Atlas Shrugged is mandatory reading for his office staff. Ryan reminisces that his views on monetary policy are inspired by this novel.” In particular he refers to a speech delivered by one of the main characters of that novel, Francisco dAnconia, at the wedding of another main character Bill Taggart.

That speech is very long and rants against the dropping of the gold standard for American currency but, despite it’s length, it should be required reading for every American. In particular, two paragraphs of Ayn Rand’s dAnconia speech stand out as lessons for the situation our country is facing today.

“You stand in the midst of the greatest achievements of the greatest productive civilization and you wonder why it’s crumbling around you, while you’re damning its life-blood: money. You look upon money as the savages did before you, and you wonder why the jungle is creeping back to the edge of your cities. Throughout men’s history, money was always seized by looters of one brand or another, but whose method remained the same: to seize wealth by force and to keep the producers bound, demeaned, defamed, deprived of honor.

“If you ask me to name the proudest distinction of Americans, I would choose, because it contains all the others, the fact that they were the people who created the phrase ‘to make money’. No other language or nation had ever used these words before; men had always thought of wealth as a static quantity to be seized, begged, inherited, shared, looted, or obtained as a favor. Americans were the first to understand that wealth has to be created. The words ‘to make money’ hold the essence of human morality.”

Ayn Rand was born, raised and educated in Russia where she learned, first hand, the evils of collectivism and Communism.

Where Paul Ryan separates himself from Ayn Rand is in her atheism which is a major element of her Objectivist philosophy. Ryan describes himself as “more of a Thomas Aquinas guy than a Randian.” Ryan is a life-long Catholic.

Ryan is an economic Conservative but, to his credit (at least in my opinion) he is not a hard-line Social Conservative.

Romney/Ryan: Maybe too optimistic!

I love the idea of a President Romney and a Vice President Ryan — (the alternative is unthinkable) — they will do what’s right for the country; I will certainly vote for them in November

Here comes the “but”: But, while the choice of Ryan has most certainly excited and locked up the Conservative vote — it may not be as exciting to Independents and to others who consider themselves genuinely undecided. The mantra has always been: to win the election you have to win the Independent vote; just maybe (and again I hope I’m wrong) a Romney Ryan ticket may appear TOO Conservative to many in that large block of Independents and Undecideds.

Personally, I don’t understand how ANY American who is paying attention to the state of the nation or those that have been paying attention to what President Obama has done or to the direction he is taking the country can even remotely consider re-electing him as president. To consider re-electing President Obama a person would have to really detest the people who can actually turn the unemployment situation around, the people who have the skill and who can afford to run businesses and hire people. To consider re-electing President Obama, a person would have to be really insecure, unsure of their own self-worth and therefore scared of the possibility that the government would no longer be the great “mother” that takes care of all of their needs, a person would have to willingly choose to live by the generosity of others.

That’s not the way the country was intended to work but that’s the way some number of Americans want it to work — hopefully, this election will show them to be a minority.

And then there is foreign policy!

Under President Obama, the United States is rapidly becoming ‘just another country’.

Our many enemies are losing their respect for the United States and, more importantly, losing their fear of the United States. That must never happen because if it does, the attacks that have already begun will continue and grow in their intensity. The United States has never been a “paper tiger” and it must never become one.

The United States IS the greatest country in our world — those who doubt that are already falling into the hands of those who hate us and are jealous of us and want to bring us down to their level.

It’s obvious that President Obama does not believe that the United States is all that special and it’s obvious that he is striving to “level the playing field” in foreign policy as he has attempted to do internally to our economy. It’s a dangerous plan!

In the coming months the Obama re-election team will be trying to paint the Romney/Ryan team as enemies of the common man and champions of the rich and they will continue to vilify the most wealthy Americans. That’s a game plan that was created by failed Socialist leaders and one that is being meticulously followed by the Obama administration.

It is wise to note that, historically, EVERY attempt at creating a Socialist state has failed, has caused misery and poverty among the population and has enriched only the corrupt government leaders.

Fareed Zakaria Suspended — “Gone, and a cloud in my heart”

Time Magazine suspended Fareed Zakaria today due to plagiarism that was uncovered by NewsBusters, a Conservative organization dedicated to finding and exposing Liberal Bias in the media.

Newsbuster’s discovery of a plagiarized paragraph in Zacharia’s Time Magazine article “The Case for Gun Control,” in truth, was a case of finding an exposing a Liberal journalist; it not had little to do with Liberal Media bias but we must admit that gun control and Liberalism are intrinsically linked.

That said, the evidence is clear and Zakaria freely admitted, that the paragraph in question was almost a direct take from Jill Lepore’s New Yorker Magazine article, “Battleground America.”

Not only has Time Magazine suspended Zakaria but CNN, where Zakaria hosted (note the past tense) his own show: Fareed Zakaria GPS, also set Zakaria adrift because he had written similar articles for the CNN Blog.

Fareed Rafiq Zakaria, born in India, is a recognized Left-leaning expert on America’s foreign policy, has been a foreign policy research director at Harvard and is highly-acclaimed as a contributor, journalist, editor and managing editor on a great many magazines. His knowledge of the subject of foreign affairs did not, however, make him an expert on gun control — with Zakaria, it was just a matter of using his writing credentials to sell his biased opinion.

Zakaria stated today: that this incident was caused by “a serious lapse (in judgment) and one that is entirely my fault.” He went on to say: “I apologize unreservedly to [Jill Lepore], to my editors at Time, and to my readers.”

In closing, he perhaps also should have plagiarized from Alfred Lord Tennyson:

“Gone – flitted away,

Taken the stars from the night and the sun

From the day!

Gone, and a cloud in my heart.

Sorry Rush, You’re Wrong About Chick-Fil-A Protests

Rush Limbaugh asserted today in a World Net Daily article that “CHICK FIL-A IS NOT THE REAL TARGET – IT’S CHRISTIANITY.” In particular, Limbaugh (and just about every other “Social Conservative”) claims that “all this stuff at Chick-fil-A: the target is Christianity, not Chick-fil-A. The target is freedom of religion.”

The way I see it, while freedom of religion is no doubt important, freedom FROM religion is the quest of the protesters and that quest is every bit as critical.

Chick-Fil-A, as a private enterprise, has every right to adopt any policy it wants and every right to tie it’s public image to any religious concepts it wants. It is a right to gay marriage that is the central/Constitutional issue on every protester’s mind; and since Dan Cathy intentionally offered his company up as a target (or sacrificial lamb) on the issue he’s getting his wish: Target Practice.

Enough talk of Chick-Fil-A

Rush, why don’t you and all the other Social Conservatives admit that you believe it is the Christian Bible that is the controlling document for our country, not the Constitution.

In 1996, when Bill Clinton and a majority of both houses had the gall to stick their noses in a strictly States-Rights issue by passing DOMA, it signaled to those of us who believe in the Constitution that Jerry Fallwell’s Moral Majority had finally and completely subverted our government. Presidents, Senators and Congressmen have every right to hold any religious beliefs they want but when their religious beliefs are primarily the same and they interject those religious beliefs into laws that change the meaning of any part of the Constitution, as DOMA did to the First and Tenth Amendments, they have gone too far toward making laws that establish their religion as the National Religion of an ‘all powerful’ U.S. Government.

I don’t believe that Social Conservatives have any problem with that, but there are millions of others who do have a problem with your ‘National Religion’ Rush. Perhaps you should try untying that ‘other half’ of your brain.

An interesting footnote is that Former President Clinton and key legislators involved in DOMA have since changed their minds and now want it repealed. Also, one section of DOMA has since been found unconstitutional in seven federal courts. That’s what happens when you allow religious fervor to overtake common sense or Constitutional intent.

Rush Limbaugh says: “I just cherish freedom. I cherish liberty.”

(Does that apply to all Americans Rush, or just Christians?)

Newsflash: Gay’s Outnumbered by Frightened Christians

Wait just a minute! That’s not news! And neither was today’s Washington Post story titled Chick-fil-A sets sales record on Appreciation Day amid flap over execs marriage comments.

Americans in general, including religious Americans, are growing more and more accepting of the facts that gays are honoring the very spirit of Christian teachings by wanting to marry, wanting to devote their lives to each other, wanting to be known as two people who love each other enough to vow faithfulness to each other until death do them part. They are a long way from realizing full acceptance by the majority of Americans — but they will win that acceptance eventually because they are who they are — they are who God made them to be.

The myth that the sole purpose of marriage is having children is shattered every time a man and a woman has their marriage blessed by the church in spite of the advanced age or physical infirmities that makes bearing children impossible.

Realize something! When most American’s think of gays they are picturing the angry, insecure gays who are threatening to hold a “kiss-in” at Chick-Fil-A — that’s not who gay’s are. The vast majority of gay’s are just normal people who have a sexual attraction to persons of their same sex. They work beside you and you’d never know they’re gay, they shop where you do, they play on the same beaches, stay in the same hotels, prey in the same churches and you’d never know they’re sexual preferences are different from yours. Those few hundred people who march in “Gay Day” parades wearing feather boas and tiaras are the the worst enemies of gays — worse than the frightened, angry millions of Christian’s who cannot think for themselves long enough to realize that God made gays what they are just as he made everyone else the way they are. Those angry, insecure protesters are doing nothing more than scaring people, making enemies and reinforcing a false stereotype.

Hopefully, some day, both groups will ‘smarten up.’

One more thing, many of you are probably dismissing me and what I write as the ramblings of some ‘queer’ who’s trying to ‘pull the wool over your eyes’ — if you knew me, you’d know how wrong you are. I’m not gay but I treat people, regardless of how different they are from me, with respect, and the gay people I know are decent, hardworking and some of the nicest people I’ve ever met. They deserve my support — and YOUR support.
